Nicole is 6 Years Old!!

It seems like just yesterday I was sitting in my little apartment in SF with my parents & Jake's parents waiting to go to the hospital for my c-section. I couldn't believe I was having my 3rd child! We were already cramped for space & now we were adding a baby & all the stuff that goes with it into this tiny place. Jake was still in dental school, we had no money & getting around this big city was hard enough with 2 kids. There was a lot of unknown, but we knew it was time for Nicole to join our family. I remember when Brittany came to see Nicole for the first time we told Brittany Nicole's name & Brittany didn't like it--she wanted to name her Penny. We were so confused & couldn't figure out where she came up with that name. After talking it through for a little while with her we realized she thought we had named Nicole Nickel (after the coin). She preferred the coin Penny & was upset we wouldn't change her name.
I hope Nicole had a fun birthday. Because of Jake's work schedule & church meetings, we celebrated Nicole's birthday over 3 days. Thursday we took her out to IHOP (her choice) & she loved her pancakes, hot chocolate & free birthday sundae (it was HUGE!).

We went home & she went on a treasure hunt for her gift--a new bike. We finally live in a place where our kids can just go out & ride their bikes. Yeah! We hope it's not too long before she's off those training wheels!

She finally got to blow out her candles & eat her very own cherry cheesecake. It's a tradition from my family growing up--you can pick the dessert & have your very own--no sharing!!

Friday she took Krispy Kreme donuts to school for her birthday treat & got a Beanie Baby frog from her bus driver. Saturday, I took her & her sisters to the mall. Nicole got a gift card to Build-A-Bear Workshop so she had to go on her birthday. She picked out a cute pink bunny & found a flower dress to put on it. She smiled through the whole thing. Her cousin, Abi, invited her over later that day to play so she was very excited to spend the day with her. I think overall she had a great birthday.

Nicole, you are so beautiful! I love your sweet smile that puts sparkles in your eyes. You are such a graceful ballerina, so creative with your art, an incredible reader, a role model, a kind friend, a loving sister & a wonderful daughter. I am proud of who you are & look forward to seeing who you become. I love you!! Happy Birthday, Nicole!
